The family home was at 37, East Clyde Street, Helensburgh The son of Alexander Howie (carter) and Jane Howie

Thomas Howie was born at Dundonald, Ayrshire. His father worked as a carter. Thomas was employed as a cab driver with Messrs Waldie in Helensburgh.

He had married Agnes Reid, a domestic servant, in Troon in 1908 and was bringing up three young children.

Thomas was killed in action at the Somme. He was 33 years of age.

The family home was Alma Place, Helensburgh The son of Mrs O'Brien
Siblings: John had a brother, Michael.
John O'Brien was born in Kerry Island, Ireland and was later living with his widowed mother in Alma Place, Helensburgh.
After being reported as missing, John was later confirmed dead, killed in action.
His remains were not recovered.

He is remembered with honour on Arras Memorial, the St Joseph's Church Roll of Honour and Helensburgh War Memorial, Column 2 Line 42.

The family home was at 20, James Street, Helensburgh The son of Mary Elliot
Siblings: There were five brothers, John, Robert, Hugh and Joseph, all serving in the colours. His brother John, died, killed in action, only two months after Thomas.
Thomas Elliot was born in Helensburgh and was employed as a gardener before enlisting. He was living with his siblings and widowed mother.
He died at Arras, killed in action, whilst attached to the Seaforth Highlanders. He was 25 years of age. His remains were not recovered.

He is remembered with honour on the Gallipoli Monument, the Scottish National War Memorial, Larchfield School Memorial, Loretto School Roll of Honour, and Helensburgh War Memorial, Column 1 Line 28.

The family home was Yewbank, 33 Glasgow Street, Helensburgh The son of William Pitcairn Robley and Edith Robley.
Siblings: John had one sister, Edith and one brother, Harrington, who also served in the Royal Navy.

John Robley was born in Glasgow and brought up in Helensburgh where his father was a Dairy Proprietor. He was educated at Larchfield and Loretto Schools before entering the offices of William Jacks & Co., ship builders of Port Dundas, Glasgow.
John applied for, and was granted, a commission in the Royal Navy in October, 1914, joining the 'Nelson' Battalion.
John died, shot through the head by a sniper whilst entrenched under heavy fire. He was 20 years old.

The family home was Durie House, 4 Abercromby Street, Helensburgh The son of the Rev. Alexander Robinson and Marion Robinson.
Siblings: Harold had two sisters, Barbara and Mary, and one brother Nigel.
Harold Robinson was born in Partick and brought up in Crieff, where his father had a ministry. The family then moved to Helensburgh following his father’s appointment as minister at Kilmun.
Harold attended Glasgow Academy before entering the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, as a 'gentleman cadet'. He joined the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1914.
Harold died, killed in action, at the age of 20 years.

He is remembered with honour on the Loos Memorial, the Scottish National War Memorial, St. Bride’s Church Roll of Honour and Helensburgh War Memorial, Column 1 Line 37.

The family home was Hopewell Cottage, Helensburgh The son of William Robertson, (widower) and Jane Robertson.
Siblings: Samuel had 1 brother, William, serving with the Black Watch who died at Loos in May 1915. He also had another brother, Malcolm and four sisters, Isabella, Chrissie, Winifred and Catherine.
Samuel Robertson was born in Helensburgh and brought up in the town where his father was an engineer with the North British Boats.
Samuel was employed as a motor driver (public bar) before enlisting. He is pictured in the uniform of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and may have joined their ranks and transferred later.
Samuel died, killed in action, at Loos aged 26 years. His remains were not recovered.

Siblings: John had four younger brothers, Robert, Hugh, Joseph and Thomas, all serving in the colours. His brother Thomas, died, killed in action, only two months before John. John had one sister, Hannah.
John Elliot was born in Helensburgh and was employed as a slater before enlisting. He was living with his siblings and widowed mother.
He died at Ypres, killed in action, whilst attached to the Seaforth Highlanders. He was 41 years old.

The family home was at 7, East Clyde Street, Helensburgh The son of George Drummond (plumber) and Mary Drummond (nee Gilmour).

James Drummond was born at 73, East Clyde Street in Helensburgh where his father was a plumber journeyman.

He later resided in Lanark.

He was killed in action, fighting in the Aisne, France, at the age of 31.

The family home was at North Lodge, Shandon Hydropathic Hotel. The son of John Knox Donaldson (coachman) and Euphemia Donaldson.
Siblings: James was the eldest of eight children, John, Robert, William, Elizabeth, Euphemia, Duncan and Alex.
James Donaldson born at the North Lodge, Shandon Hydropathic Hotel, where his father was a coachman. He was employed as a gardener at the hotel before emigrating to Canada where he was employed as a florist.
He was married to Mary Donaldson and lived in Brampton, Ontario.
James joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and returned to fight for his country. He died at Ypres, killed in action, at the age of 32 years.

He is remembered with honour on the Menin Gate Memorial, the Scottish National War Memorial, the Congregational Church Memorial, Helensburgh and Gareloch Unionist Association Roll of Honour and Helensburgh War Memorial, Column 1 Line 32.

The family home was Green House, 84, West Clyde Street, Helensburgh The son of James Pratt (boot top cutter) an Annie Pratt (nee McFarlane).

 Joseph Pratt was born in Ayr and then lived with his Grandmother, Mary Baxter, at Green House in Helensburgh. After leaving school, he was apprenticed to C.B. Ross, Sinclair Street as a shoemaker.
Joseph had been a member of the local territorials and volunteered at the outbreak of war.
Joseph died, killed in action when shot in the head by a sniper whilst filling sandbags. It is noted in his obituary that he was buried in a military churchyard, but the location of his grave is unknown.
He was 23 years of age.
