His father worked as a carter. Thomas was employed as a cab driver with Messrs Waldie in Helensburgh. He had married Agnes Reid, a domestic servant, in Troon in 1908 and was bringing up three young children. Thomas was killed in action at the Somme. He was 33 years of age.
